If you need to use a different computer from our main visuals PC, this is fine. You can plug it into our systems and have the pictures and sound handled as normal.
Find the red HDMI video cable on the top of the desk. Plug this into your laptop / iPad / phone (it can usually handle any device).
- you might need to use an adaptor if your device doesn’t have an HDMI socket. If you don’t have one, there is a selection of adaptors for different devices in the drawer at the bottom of the rack at the PA desk.
On the ATEM Production Studio 4k device in the rack, press button 3 so that the projector is now getting signal from the red cable.
Your laptop’s sound will go to the mixer, on the VISUALS channel.
No image on the projector?
- On Mac: open System Preferences, go to Displays and check that the “BMD HDMI” output is enabled.
- You may also need to change the display refresh rate to 50Hz (the default on the computer is often 60Hz which won’t work here). Mac doesn’t always remember these settings correctly, so you might have to repeat this step if you connect the computer again in future.
- On Windows: press Win+P and select “Duplicate” or “Extend” depending on whether you want the same thing to be shown on your laptop and the project (duplicate) or not (extend).
- You may also need to change the display refresh rate to 50Hz (the default on the computer is often 60Hz which won’t work here). Right-click anywhere on a blank bit of desktop and select “Display settings”. Click the icon at the top for the projector, scroll to the bottom and click “Advanced display settings”. In this box, change the “Refresh rate” to 50 Hz. On older laptops, you might also then need to unplug and reconnect the red cable for the change to be actioned.
